A card game, a leaderboard, and good company
Every Friday evening we set up the tables, hand out the chips, and play Texas Hold'em for a couple of hours. Results feed a semester-long leaderboard, and at the end of term the top players meet at the final table.
- Points, never money
- We play for points and nothing else. There is no entry fee, no pot to win, and nothing to lose but your place on the leaderboard. Poker here is what it is at its best: a game of skill, patience and reading people.
- Weekly Friday nights
- Our main event is a Texas Hold'em session every Friday during term, roughly 18:00 to 20:30. Drop in when you can: missing a week is never a problem, and turning up is always rewarded with bonus points.
- Open to every student
- Complete beginner? Perfect. We run friendly intros for new players and you will have the rules down before the first blinds go up. Seasoned grinders are just as welcome. Come test yourself against the field.
It started next to a pillar
Store Blindern Poker was founded in the summer of 2025 by William, known at the tables as Whiskey, together with Mr. X, Mr. House, Mr. Cheng, Mr. P.D. and Wildcard. On association day they had not booked a stand, so they borrowed the poker case from Fysikkforeningen and set up next to a pillar. By the end of that day the Facebook group had 60 members.
Two semesters later, more than 100 students have played at our tables across 25 events, at Abelstua, Honningkroken, RF-kjelleren and Abels utsikt. Our members come from every faculty, and from Norway, France, Belgium, Germany, the Czech Republic, Singapore, South Korea and Japan. Today the club is led by Wildcard and the board.
"Yes, we play poker (it's a zero-sum game where someone wins and someone loses), but that's not really the point."
Two semesters in
From door to final hand
The short version. The rules page has the full points system with a worked example.
-
Check in
Turn up, check in on your phone, and collect your attendance bonus: 5,000 points just for showing up. Your buy-in for the night's chip stack comes off your season points.
-
Play
Two hours or so of Texas Hold'em across several tables. Chips, cards and blinds are all handled. You just play. Bust out? One re-buy per night keeps you in the game.
-
Report & climb
At the end of the night you report your final chip stack from your phone. Finish above your buy-in and your season points grow; the leaderboard updates once the night is settled.
Pull up a chair
Store Blindern Poker is a student association at the University of Oslo, and our nights are played on Blindern campus. The Fall 2026 season opens on Friday 4 September, and everyone starts on the same 40,000 points, including you.
